I’ve come to realize what it is I need to do for the New Year and that's to focus less and move myself away from my job. I don’t know how to do it actually and it won’t be easy. Today, a lot of us are way, way too involved with our jobs and work.
I’m not saying I want to do a bad job, I take pride in my work but work as part of our lives should really be a secondary thing. There have been things on jobs that I was able to look back on with pride but I can’t say anything like that about this job because of the nature of the work.
Further, it’s been my experience that the biggest crisis, calamity, disaster on any job morphs into a forgotten memory with time.
We work to pay our bills... to obtain things we desire. We work to get added things like Medical benefits.
However, the true satisfaction of life is in the connections we make with people and the world around us. There are things I’ve done for others that have given me far more satisfaction (and enjoyment) than work has.
This past year has been a challenge for everyone. I consider myself EXTREMELY fortunate in that I have had a job and continued to work throughout the pandemic while many have struggled and lost their jobs. I’ve been able to work remotely which has even lowered my exposure to getting sick. In a year when my company actually CUT pay, because of the incredible amount of work we’ve had I actually have had the best year salary wise ever (because of overtime).
These are what is called ‘blessings.’ I know that.
Not only that but I’ve been able to do well in other ways to.
Yet, things that matter? At my age, health is a vitally important thing and now... at the age I’m at what I do is even more important because it will determine how what time I have remaining goes.
I’m not exercising. I’m way heavier now because I don’t walk and my commute is no more than a few feet. The way days are structured, even though I’m working remotely... I can’t set up my hours with any flexibility. This means I don’t get a chance to do things around the house because once my day starts it’s a non stop affair.
Anyway, my challenge will be to do my work, keep a low profile and focus more on my own needs.
AND TO STOP BITCHING ABOUT MY JOB!
